Learner Resources
For: Learners (MD, MD/PhD, Medical Radiation Sciences (MRS), Physician Assistant (PA), Occupational Therapy (OS&OT), Physical Therapy (PT) and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) residents and fellows)
There is no cost to see a Learner Life Specialist.

Meet with a therapist within the week either in-person or online. If you identify as Black, Indigenous or Person of Colour, you can request to see a counsellor with shared identity.
Workplace Support, Accommodations & Safety
The University of Toronto is committed to ensuring an accessible and inclusive environment for all members of its community. You may be eligible to request accommodations to support full participation in academic, work, and campus life. The following individuals are included: Clinical MD Faculty, individuals with Rehabilitation Sciences who work in-hospital, clinical preceptors, status-only scientists (most tenured), and some employees of the hospital.
Requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Appointed faculty or employees in hospitals have the right to seek accommodations in their workplace.
Please contact your local Human Resources (HR) department for more information.
Physicians working in hospitals have the right to be accommodated. The Ontario Medical Association has prepared guidance regarding this matter.
Safety and Mistreatment
The Clinical and Faculty Affairs Team is available to all TFOM faculty to provide support and guidance. For concerns that are not under our purview, we will gladly assist in connecting faculty to the appropriate individuals and resources.
The office will strive to contact you within 3 business days of receipt of the submission to book an intake meeting (if you provided your contact information).
Supports students, staff, and faculty at the University of Toronto. Provides confidential, non-judgmental consultation. A disclosure to the Centre does not lead to a report unless the service user wants it to.
Offers short-term support and assistance to students, staff, and faculty members of the University of Toronto for personal safety risks.
This includes talking and harassment, bullying and intimidation, threats, intimate partner violence, family violence, volatile behaviours and work/school conflict.

Financial aid and funding advice specific to your graduate program is available to you through your Registrar’s Office or Graduate Unit.

Funding is available up to $5,000 per student for one term on a one-time only basis. For students who have an approved Leave of Absence (i.e., not registered) due to physical and/or mental health challenges

Provides confidential guidance, resources, referrals and educational programming, on matters including but not limited to: family leaves, child care, schools and programming, caregiving and elder care.

Health Care Connect is an Ontario program that helps people without a family doctor or nurse practitioner find one. By registering online or by phone, you’ll be matched with a provider in your community who is accepting new patients.

Provides a free, secure and confidential service available 24/7 to help people find health services or information, or get health advice from a registered nurse (RN).

If you have a local community health centre, it may be taking new patients for those living in the area. A list of community health centres in Ontario is available online.

CPSO's Physician Register does not list what physicians are accepting new patients. However, you can use this registry to find the contact information for physicians across Ontario.

CBTi aims to help you break old habits and patterns that interfere with sleep and replace them with new approaches that bring on sleep naturally. Often called sleep therapy CBTi, is a first-line treatment for chronic insomnia without using medications.

The Insomnia Coach app was created for everyone, including Veterans and Service members, to help manage insomnia. The app is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia.

The page explains how sleep is regulated and how poor sleep can worsen chronic pain. It also provides strategies for improving sleep to support pain management.

These resources are designed to support conversations about movement and encourage healthier, more active lifestyles. It also includes a series of easy-to-use handouts on physical activity tailored to common health concerns.

Access to gym facilities and fitness classes. Discounted membership rates are available for faculty and staff members, U of T Affiliates, postdoctoral fellows, alumni, and other specified groups. Available to Learners at no extra cost if paid for in their tuition.

The Mindful Moments program offers both mindfulness meditation and mindful yoga classes. Some sessions require registration via Folio, others are drop-in style.
