External Education and Teaching Awards

Now Accepting Spring Cycle Award Nominations

Nominations for spring cycle awards are now open. Explore award opportunities using the Awards Database. Apply by May 14th, 2025 using the nomination form.

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine's Teaching and Education Awards Committee (ETAC) has the privilege of recognizing individuals who are making significant contributions to Health Professions Education.

Twice a year, we solicit nominations from across our faculty for a range of external teaching and education awards issued at the University, national and international levels. Through a rigorous adjudication process, we identify individuals and groups that are demonstrating excellence in teaching, education scholarship and leadership in education, and make recommendations to the Dean of Medicine on which candidates should be put forward as the official Temerty nominees for these awards.

Nomination Cycles

Calls for nominations are issued twice per year:

  • Fall cycle awards open in mid-October
  • Spring cycle awards open in mid-March

For a full list of externally-presented teaching and education awards and their nomination cycle, consult our Teaching and Education Awards Database.

Nomination Process

  • For external awards, nominees are first adjudicated at the faculty level. This first stage adjudication requires a simplified version of the nomination package that will ultimately be required to be put forward as the official Temerty nominee.
  • Once selected by ETAC, the Office of the Vice Dean, Medical Education will support the official nominee in developing their full nomination package. Please direct any questions to medicine.awards@utoronto.ca rather than to the organization offering the award.
