About External Awards

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine's Teaching and Education Awards Committee (ETAC) has the privilege of recognizing individuals who are making significant contributions to Health Professions Education.

Twice a year, we solicit nominations from across our faculty for a range of external teaching and education awards issued at the University, national and international levels. Through a rigorous adjudication process, we identify individuals and groups that are demonstrating excellence in teaching, education scholarship and leadership in education, and make recommendations to the Dean of Medicine on which candidates should be put forward as the official Temerty nominees for these awards.

Nomination Process

Nominations due to Temerty by May 22.

Nominations are adjudicated centrally at the Faculty level. This stage of the adjudication requires a simplified version of the official nomination package. You can preview the nomination form below.

Temerty Education & Teaching Awards Committee reviews and selects official Temerty nominee.

Candidates selected to move forward will be notified by August.

Office of the Vice Dean, Medical Education supports nominee to develop full nomination package.

Our Office will secure the decanal nomination letter (if required) and support the development of letters of support and other nomination materials.

Official Nomination submitted to award body by external deadline.

External deadlines vary by award body: AFMC, CAME, CMA, Royal College, AAMC, and U of T. Our Office will coordinate submission by the external deadline.

Calls for nominations are issued twice per year. Please direct any questions to medicine.awards@utoronto.ca rather than to the organization offering the award.

About the Education and Teaching Awards Committee (ETAC)

ETAC is comprised of faculty and learners/trainees and chaired by the Vice Dean, Medical Education. The Committee reviews candidates for external Education and Teaching awards requiring a decanal nomination and makes recommendations to the Dean of Medicine.
