Gathering in Solidarity for Trans Day of Remembrance

On November 20th, join the Sexual & Gender Diversity Office and LGBTOUT in honouring the lives of those we have lost to anti-trans violence. For the first portion of this event, we will be folding flowers together as a way to commemorate the lives of those who have passed. All interested students, faculty and staff are welcome to join us for this activity in room 421 of 21 Sussex Avenue from 2 – 4:00 pm.

These flowers will then be brought to an on-campus vigil that will be held right after the paper folding activity, at 4:30 pm in the Woodsworth Quad. At the vigil, folks are invited to plant a flower down as names are read, as a symbol of remembrance, mourning, and futurity of life. Please keep in mind that you are more than welcome to attend either part or both parts of the event.

All trans positive members of the community are welcome, however the space will prioritize those who identity as trans, transsexual, transgender, genderqueer, non-binary, gender non-conforming or those who are questioning their gender identity. We encourage trans positive members of the community to spend this time to reflect upon and discuss the importance of celebrating the lives of trans folks, and how we as a community can better support trans folks during and outside of remembrance days.
