TREC in cooperation with the JCB and through the support of TAHSN was pleased to present DNA Uncoiled: Mapping the Future of Privacy, Research and Genetic Ethics, a half-day educational event for researchers, REB members and staff, bioethicists, TREC and working group members, relevant students and fellows and other interested individuals. Shane Green served as keynote speaker. Panelists included Ken Anderson, Sally Bean, Jack Holland and Lillian Siu, with Larry Librach moderating. TREC would like to thank Shane Green, the panelists, and the TREC members who contributed their time and efforts to the development of the event, Sharon Freitag, Jack Holland, Steve Ryan, Pascal van Lieshout and Rachel Zand.

TREC was pleased to present N2 (Network of Networks), a Collaborative Approach to Clinical Research, an educational event for REB Chairs and Vice-Chairs. Karen Arts presented at this event, which was supported by TAHSN.

TREC was pleased to present Problems and Solutions in Canadian Research Ethics Oversight: Interpreting the TCPS2, an educational event for all TAHSN REB Chairs and REB members with legal expertise. Speakers included Lori Ferris, Susan Zimmerman, Alan Shanoff and Master Don Shortt. All TAHSN REB legal members and most REB Chairs attended this informative event. TREC thanks to REB Chairs Steve Ryan, Miriam Shuchman and Richard Sugarman as well as REB legal members Master Don Short and session hosts who planned this highly successful event. A special thanks to Nadia Tanel, REB administrator at Holland Bloorview. This event was supported by TAHSN.

TREC welcomed Prof. Larry Librach to TREC as a new TREC member in his capacity as Director of the Joint Centre for Bioethics. We look forward to working with Prof. Librach and the JCB.

TREC is currently planning for educational events to take place in 2012. Stay tuned!
TREC is pleased to announce that the TAHSN Harmonized Research Ethics Application Form has been finalized, approved and is now in use in teaching hospitals across TAHSN. Our deepest thanks to the members of TREC, the Research Administrators Working Group, and the other research administrative staff in TAHSN hospitals for their tireless efforts in support of this project.
TREC is also pleased to announce that Privacy eLearning Modules developed by the TAHSN Privacy Officers -- including the Research module supported by TREC -- have been piloted, finalized and implemented TAHSN and the Toronto Central LHIN.

The TAHSN Research Committee approved new Terms of Reference for TREC, reflecting TREC's position as a Standing Committee.

The TAHSN CEO Committee accepted the recommendation from its Research Committee that TREC become a Standing Committee. TREC originally had a two-year, limited-term mandate. As a Standing Committee, TREC will continue to advance improvements in the process of ethics review and human subject research among the TAHSN partners.

The TAHSN Research Committee approved the new draft Harmonized Human Subjects Research Ethics Application Form for piloting in all TAHSN institutions.
