U of T Giving Day 2024

Celebrating the Power of Philanthropy,
Championing Inclusive Excellence

Temerty Medicine is proud to join the broader University of Toronto community in the second annual U of T Giving Day. From now until March 26th, join us as we celebrate the power of philanthropy at Temerty Medicine and offer our collective thanks to the many donors whose philanthropic support underpins every aspect of our work.

This U of T Giving Day we're highlighting inclusive excellence. We'll be recognizing Temerty Medicine’s oversized impact on health and health care, and how the difference we make is enhanced even further by our ability to bring together diverse ideas, talent, experiences and perspectives.

Ida and Petra Famiyeh

“We benefited so much from the programs U of T offers, especially to students from marginalized and underrepresented backgrounds."

Give, Go, Share: Three Ways to Participate

1. Give

U of T Giving Day is the perfect time to support Temerty Medicine with a donation.

While contributions to any Temerty Medicine research or education initiative will be celebrated , Giving Day has also unlocked an exciting matching opportunity tied to Giving Day 2024’s inclusive excellence theme. New donations made on or before March 26th to any of our three featured funds (below) will be matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $1,000, while matching funds last). All donations will generate a receipt for Canadian tax purposes.

Office of Access and Outreach Priority Fund

Give Now

Temerty Medicine’s Office of Access and Outreach supports the success of learners and practitioners from diverse backgrounds throughout their educational and career journeys. It creates educational pathways that begin with introducing high school students to the health sciences and extend to undergraduate, professional program applicant, trainee and practitioner audiences.

When you give to the Office of Access and Outreach Priority Fund, you help open doors to new generations of aspiring health care professionals and health scientists by fueling life-changing initiatives such as the Summer Mentorship Program (which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024!), the Community of Support, STEAM Design Program, Research Application Support Initiative, Black and Indigenous Student Applicant Programs. You also help support the Office’s important work advising other post-secondary institutions across Canada in setting up their own access and outreach programs – driving change across the country.

*Your new donation to this U of T Giving Day feature fund made before March 26th will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000 (while matching funds last)

Graduate Student Awards Fund

Give Now

Fundamental health scientists help unravel the mysteries of the human body and disease, while also driving the development of transformative new biomedical therapies and technologies. Graduate students — those pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees while working in laboratories at universities and hospitals — are a major enabler of and contributor to this essential scientific work.

While the Canadian academic health sciences sector has a long track record of achievement, it is also increasingly threatened by the growing challenges graduate research students face. A rising cost of living in Toronto and other Canadian cities, historic inflation and fierce demand for limited funding have led many to pursue advanced scientific training elsewhere, or to forgo this demanding career path altogether. This particularly impacts students from less socio-economically advantaged backgrounds.

Canada cannot afford to lose these talented scientists and their impactful ideas. By supporting Temerty Medicine’s Graduate Student Awards Fund you can help ensure we have the people in place to drive important new discoveries now and for generations to come.

James and Louise Temerty Building Fund

Give Now

The James and Louise Temerty Building will be a state-of-the-art and inclusive education and research facility. The project will see the redevelopment of the Medical Science Building’s West Wing on the corner of King’s College Road and King’s College Circle – at the very heart of U of T’s St. George campus across from historic Convocation Hall.

The new building will be inclusive of all communities and support discovery, innovation, equity and well-being. It will serve as an important centrepiece for the Temerty Medicine – a place where researchers, partners and students will gather to share ideas and consider answers to scientific, health and clinical questions. In keeping with U of T’s long-standing commitment to excellence in architecture, the building will be designed to enrich the campus and the student learning experience.

With laboratories equipped with the latest equipment for biomedical research, specially designed teaching labs and modular spaces, and unique spaces to spark collaboration and dialogue among students and researchers, the new building will help draw top talent, support medical discovery and innovation, and become a vibrant hub for public engagement and academic partnerships.

2. GO

It will be a great opportunity to connect and catch-up with your colleagues and friends while also taking a moment to celebrate the impact philanthropy has on our community.
