The Tanz Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases (CRND) provides international leadership in research, education and discovery in neurodegenerative diseases. The Tanz Centre’s unique, cross-disciplinary scientific teams are at the forefront of global research in brain diseases, and our breakthroughs continue to have a critical impact in advancing the progress of research into these illnesses.
One of the programs established at Tanz is the Jim Hunter Family ALS Initiative, which was started through a start-up donation of $300,000 by the Hunter Family following Jim’s diagnosis with the disease. The Initiative involves a research partnership between the Faculty of Medicine and Sunnybrook Hospital. The Program’s goals are to reduce the time to diagnosis (which has typically occurred after years of symptomatic progression), improve quality of life, and to pursue a cure for this debilitating disease.
