Medicine As a Bridge to Peace: An Israeli-Palestinian Partnership in Pediatrics

Meet Dr. Eitan Kerem and Dr. Khandra Salami of Project Rozana

Join us to learn about Project Rozana, a joint Israeli-Palestinian, community-wide, multi-faith health initiative seeking to create pathways to peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Two of Project Rozana's doctors, Dr. Khadra Hasan Ali Salami, a Palestinian pediatric oncologist from Augusta Victoria Hospital and Professor Raphael Walden, Professor of Surgery and Deputy Director of Chaim Sheba Medical Center, will discuss their cooperative work which is saving lives, developing Palestinian health care capacity, and building bridges to peace.

About Project Rozana:

Project Rozana was established in 2013. It has since grown to become an international organization committed to encouraging interaction between Israelis and Palestinians through the field of healthcare, an area of civil society where both meet on a broad scale. Providing opportunities for Palestinian professionals and patients to access the Israeli healthcare system builds trust and promotes mutual respect from which both communities will benefit.

Dr. Raphael (Raphi) Walden is a Professor of Surgery and Deputy Director of Chaim Sheba Medical Center, also known as Tel Hashomer. He is also a long time volunteer and board member at Physicians for Human Rights (PHR)-Israel and well known in Israel as the son-in-law of the Shimon Peres z"l, for whom he served as personal physician for decades.

Dr. Khadra Salami, is a mother of two and works as a pediatric hematology oncology specialist at August Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem. Dr. Salami did her fellowship in King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan. In addition to building the first bone marrow transplant unit for both children and adults, she is continuing her fellowship training in pediatric BMT at Hadassah Hospital. Dr. Salami is passionate about the training of Palestinian healthcare professionals and building the healthcare capacity of Palestinian communities.
