Professor Danielle Martin to Co-Lead National Review of Eight Major Health Care Organizations

Martin, Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Vice President Medical Affairs and Health System Solutions for Women’s College Hospital, will co-lead an independent expert review with the University of Calgary’s Pierre-Gerlier Forest to provide Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor with recommendations as to the future of PCHOs.

“Overall, our health systems deliver good care to Canadians,” says Martin. “But there’s always room for improvement. I’m honoured to be asked to undertake this important work.”

The review will be conducted over the course of the fall and winter, with a summary of the recommendations expected to be published in the spring of 2018. It will assess the role and impact of the current suite of PCHOs with a particular focus on:

Improving the affordability, accessibility and appropriate use of pharmaceuticals;

Optimizing synergies between health data collection and information technologies;

Addressing mental health and problematic substance use;

Strengthening systems to deliver care at home and in the community;

Promoting service delivery innovation;

Enhancing pan-Canadian collaboration in priority areas.
