Mindfest

Do you need a mental health break? A poem may be the best medicine.

University of Toronto’s Poet in Community and Mount Sinai Hospital’s Poet in Residence Ronna Bloom will be prescribing poems at Mindfest, an all-day mental health and wellness fair held by the Department of Psychiatry, Student Health & Wellness and Hart House.

This free event raises awareness about mental health issues, highlights the support systems available to those who need them, and helps to combat mental health stigma. Mindfest has fun exhibit booths, guest speakers, interactive workshops, yoga and mindfulness activities, and giveaways.

Mindfest will feature 10 inspirational speakers, including:

  • Acclaimed Canadian sports journalist Michael Landsberg
  • Psychiatrists Profs. Amy Cheung, Kenneth Fung, Bob Maunder and Tom Ungar
  • Mental health advocates Jesse Bigelow, Elyse Grieco, Leanne Needham
  • The Jack Project, a student-led mental health initiative

A free screening of the movie “Not Criminally Responsible” at Hart House Theatre wraps up the day’s events at 7 pm. For more information, visit www.mindfest.ca for the day’s speaker and workshop line-up.
