U of T Professors Angela Colantonio, Laurence H. Klotz, John R. McLaughlin and Katherine Anne SiminovitchFive faculty members of the University of Toronto have been named fellows of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, one of Canada’s most esteemed academic academies.

“From groundbreaking work in rehabilitation sciences to understanding genetic signaling, the new fellows from the University of Toronto embody the best attributes of health researchers,” said Professor Trevor Young, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. “They have distinguished themselves and our University through their contributions to research and education.”

The fellows are recognized for their leadership, creativity and commitment to advancing academic health science and are drawn from a wide range of health professions — recognizing work from basic science to population health.

“I congratulate our colleagues on their well-earned recognition,” said Young.

Election to fellowship in the Academy is considered one of the highest honours in the Canadian health sciences community.

The newly elected fellows are:

  • Angela Colantonio, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy
  • Susan B. Jaglal, Department of Physical Therapy
  • Laurence H. Klotz, Department of Surgery
  • John R. McLaughlin, Dalla Lana School of Public Health
  • Katherine Anne Siminovitch, Department of Medicine (Rheumatology)

The new fellows were inducted at a ceremony hosted by the Academy on September 17.
