The Microscopy Imaging Laboratory (MIL) is a multi-user, high-end optical and electron microscopy facility serving the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Toronto, and research labs in the GTA. The MIL is managed by Lindsey Fiddes who has 5 years’ experience training students in optical microscopy. Together with Yan Chen, training is provided in SEM and TEM preparative techniques for a wide range of biological and material science samples; examination and photography of specimens; digital image analysis; SEM and TEM X-ray analysis; confocal microscopy; and instruction and training of students in all stages of specimen preparation and instrumentation.
Lindsey Fiddes and Yan Chen work under the supervision of Prof. Stephen Girardin. As Academic Supervisor of the MIL, Stephen Girardin works to bring cutting-edge imaging techniques to the facility to maintain top quality images. Stephen himself has many years of experience in the application of microscopy techniques to biological and materials science specimens.
