Topic: “What Do We Learn from the Nazi Physicians?”

Speaker: Jack Hughes, MD and Professor of Medicine, Yale School of Medicine

Learning Objectives:

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

Describe several ways that German physicians participated in the Nazi enterprise and furthered the creation of the Holocaust.
Discuss whether the German population at the time of the Holocaust was unique, and if not, explain what characteristics shared with the remainder of the human race could permit a repetition of the Holocaust.
Examine whether physicians in general, not just physicians in the Nazi era, might be particularly susceptible to assenting to or even actively participating in inhuman acts.
