Dalla Lana Fellowship in Global Journalism 2023-2024 - Open House

Welcome to a new Dalla Lana Fellowship in Journalism and Health Impact

Since 2012, more than 200 subject-matter specialists have joined the Fellowship in Journalism and Health Impact from around the world to learn journalism – and then used those skills to become award-winning reporters, senior policy-makers, institutional leaders and breakthrough researchers. (Many say they’ve also become better clinicians.)

Now, we’re making the program more accessible and affordable.

WHAT’S CHANGING

We’ve made the Fellowship in Journalism and Health Impact easier to take while working full-time:

  • You’ll start with a fast, 10-day bootcamp. (Sept 6 – Sept 15)
  • Then, every week from Sept 18 to March 19, you’ll meet your mentors for two hours to shape new stories and we’ll pitch those ideas our media partners. You’ll pitch as often as you want, and we’ll teach you journalism as you report the stories that media pick-up.
  • On one Friday and Saturday per month, from October through March, working journalists will teach you more advanced skills – from investigative techniques to audio reporting.
  • If you’re in the Toronto area, you can join us in class. If not, you can join live online from anywhere in the world. Whether you’re in class or online, the experience is the same.

We’re also cutting tuition by 30%, to C$12,000; that’s about US $9000. (If you pay taxes in Canada, the tuition is eligible for a 15% tax credit, reducing your costs to about $10,000.)

If you are a member of The College of Family Physicians of Canada: This activity has not been formally reviewed by the CFPC; however, it is eligible for non-certified CPD credits. Mainpro+ participants may also earn additional certified credits by completing a Linking Learning exercise.

If you are a member of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, you can claim Section 2 CPD hours for participation in this program.

WHAT’S NOT CHANGING

We’re massively focused on mentorship, execution and impact. Unlike conventional journalism training, we mentor you as you actually cover your own specialty for top media around the world. Media have published more than 1000 stories by our Fellows, while they were still in the program.

When you graduate in March 2024, you’ll already be an experienced reporter. If you want to go on in journalism, you’re ready for editors who want deeper reporting. If you want to have impact in health, you’re equipped with the tools you need to shape the public discussion.
