Service of Remembrance at Soldiers' Tower

The University of Toronto will observe its annual Service of Remembrance at this event, to honour the memory of the university alumni, students, faculty and staff who gave their lives in the two World Wars. This year’s service  will mark the centenary of the opening of Hart House, and the laying of the cornerstone for the Soldiers’ Tower. The ceremony will include a recitation of “In Flanders Fields” by Faculty of Medicine alumnus, Dr. John McCrae.

The service will take place at the base of the Soldiers’ Tower war memorial beside Hart House. Seating will be provided at the front for elderly or disabled persons. The carillon will play before and after the service, and a free public reception will follow on the second floor of Hart House. The reception will be smaller than usual this year, because the Great Hall is not available, and we are asking attendees to give priority to senior citizens. The Memorial Room inside the Soldiers’ Tower will be open to 4 pm.

Faculties, colleges and other members of the campus community are welcome to place a wreath or floral arrangement.
