Professor Changiz Mohiyeddini appointed as Michael Garron Chair in Education at Michael Garron Hospital and U of T

Professor Changiz Mohiyeddini has been appointed the inaugural Michael Garron Chair in Education at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH).

The position is held in partnership with the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, where Mohiyeddini has also been named a faculty member in the department of family and community medicine, effective August 4, 2026.

In his role, Mohiyeddini will serve as MGH's academic education leader, advancing health-care delivery through developing evidence-based comprehensive educational strategies for all health-care trainees and professionals.

This includes building simulation-based learning experiences, embedding patient and family perspectives into institutional education and mentoring the next generation of health-care providers. His work will integrate social justice and health equity across all educational activities to address health disparities for vulnerable populations.

The Michael Garron Chair in Education was established with the generous support of Myron and Berna Garron as part of their $25-million gift to U of T's Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) in 2024.

Michael Garron Hospital is a key institutional partner in SAMIH, reflecting its commitment to expanding local health-care capacity, serving an underserved region, and training practitioners in the community.

Mohiyeddini brings over 26 years of leadership in academic medicine, medical education, health professions research, teaching and mentorship. He has held senior academic positions in the United States and Europe, where he has been honoured with several awards for excellence in teaching, research and diversity.

He is a recognized expert in medical education, curriculum development, assessment and faculty development, with a clinical background in behavioural medicine, psychopathology and psychotherapy. He has taught and mentored medical students, psychiatry residents and clinician-educators across multiple institutions and countries.

He serves the scientific community as editor-in-chief and associate editor of several internationally recognized academic journals, and has advised community hospitals and academic institutions in Europe on the implementation of educational interventions.
