Honouring Temerty Medicine’s 2026 University of Toronto Student Leadership Award recipients

Congratulations to the 18 Temerty Faculty of Medicine learners who received the 2026 University of Toronto Student Leadership Award (UTSLA) and were recently honoured at a breakfast hosted by the Temerty Medicine alumni relations team.

The UTSLA recognizes students in their final year of study from across the university for their outstanding student leadership, volunteer service and commitment to U of T. This year, 18 of the recipients are Temerty Medicine learners (and soon-to-be alumni) representing a wide range of departments, divisions and disciplines.

The recipients were recently honoured at a celebratory breakfast hosted by Marcus Law (MD '00, PGME Family Medicine), associate dean of the MD Program, and Justin Nodwell (PhD '93 Molecular Genetics), vice dean, research and health science education, along with the Temerty Medicine Office of Advancement.

Nodwell welcomed the students to the breakfast and thanked them for embracing opportunities at U of T to actively support their communities.

"The university is so much more than what you study," he says, "There is no shortage of smart people here, but there are only a few who step up to help the way that you have." 

Law also offered his congratulations to the recipients. He remarked how Temerty Medicine learners are already managing demanding workloads, so by taking on additional responsibilities the UTSLA recipients stand out as extraordinary.

"Thank you for going above and beyond. I am truly grateful for your leadership," he says.
