We are excited to welcome Dr. Monica Olsen, Brightshores Health System - Owen Sound, who will provide insights into:

"The gender gap in anesthesia: data, evidence and experience close to home"

Learning Objectives

  1. Define the representation of women in the anesthesia work force in Ontario.
  2. Outline the patterns and trajectory of women’s participation in anesthesia residency programs in Canada.
  3. Provide an example of a structural or historical reason for the gender gap in medicine and anesthesia.
  4. Undertake a data analysis and discussion in your own department using your EMR or scheduling system. 

About Dr. Monica Olsen

Dr. Monica Olsen completed her undergraduate degree in physiotherapy, as well as medical school and residency, at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She has had a mixed anesthesia practice throughout her career in both small and large hospitals; in early career, a small centre ICU practice; Dr. Olsen is acquiring locum experience in under serviced locations, including PEI, northern areas (Timmins, Yellowknife) and rural Alberta.

Dr. Olsen has recently relocated to Owen Sound (Brightshores Health System) Hospital from Trillium Health Partners. She was fortunate to serve six years in Ontario’s Anesthesiologists executive and participated in various interesting, rewarding advocacy efforts. She has participated or led special or focused work in anesthesia HHR, compromised supply chain distribution (PPE, epidurals), strategy and governance, environmental sustainability and advocacy.

The event will be held virtually via Zoom from 5:00 - 6:00 pm (EST) and registration is required.
